Despite the rushed nature of this season, won't the major plot points in the books stay the same? The HBO series took great liberties with some of the nuances (and cut out a lot of the others), but I remember reading somewhere that GRRM had to OK the major plot points so they matched with his roadmap.

I don't have a big problem with the major plot points in the HBO series, it's just that they happened at an unbelievable pace. The books are good because the format allows multiple story arcs to move along concurrently, without sacrificing detailed character development. The first season is like a carbon copy of the first book, which is why it was so good. The slow descent of Dany into madness should have taken several seasons, but for the sake of finishing the series, it happened in 10 seconds.

Regardless, he would have free-rein to do whatever he wanted, taking into account all the feedback from those of us who are sharing our opinions...or not. Either way, it would be guaranteed to be different, and also to include a lot of food-porn (which would likely not include a Starbucks cup or for that matter a Jaime with his right hand mysteriously reattached? - https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ellievhall/jaime-lannister-hand-game-of-thrones)

    Here's to hopes and dreams!

What did you guys expect? The last two books sucked after A Storm of Swords. The backstory with Lord Bloodraven was way cooler than anything in the real plot. Hell that might be a way for Martin to write himself out of the holes in the real plot that D&W knocked down like a SWAT team.

Medieval lances and Roman swords did Mortal Kombat damage too. I wondered what those Russian rocket in the pipes mounted on the pickup trucks from WWII did and saw some footage from Lebanon and Syria. Each of them can blow up a house easily and shooting them off looks like a NASA launch. No wonder the Nazis were scared shitless of them.

Do you think Danerys got crazy, mad... or it’s just anger? I never read any of the books.

I think they only way I’ll accept the last season is if Tyrion ends up on the throne after everything he’s been through and Danny/Jon Snow off each other.

I used to think the same way. Until I got tired of palming my face at every advice he gave to his queen this last two seasons. Tyrion and Jon sucked! This is what I feel Tyrion should have adviced:
    1. Secure all Targaryen allies fully: Highgarden and Dorne. (That's why we have Unsullied).
    2. Decisively control the seas and all of the trade routes: Utterly destroy Euron (Dany fucked them up with one dragon in 10 seconds).
    3. Completely sack and savotage Lanister's economic might. (That's why we have Dothriaki).
    4. Planification of revolt with in Kings Landing: Utilize Varys and discontent with Cercei. (Varys fucking do something!)
    5. Never attack, but bait the enemy to attack in controlled battle situations. (I would say Tyrion, but...)
Instead, they attack Lanister-land, completely ignoring 1 and 2. This lead into Cercei completely going around 3, given a classic 5 move against Targaryen. Meanwhile, Varys is doing nothing about 4 (EDIT: which Jaimie did when he won over Lord Tarly within Highgarden).

When I heard Tyrion's plan last season, I was actually thinking that in the writing Tyrion was secretly betraying the queen. Even Dany was like "WTF dude?"

Then Dany decides to do a 5 given 1, 2, and 3 are no longer an option (Dorne, Highgarden, and Iron born all taken out in record time thanks to Tyrion), and Tyrion advices against it? WTF! That shit was the only thing that actually worked.

Then it turns out that the brilliant plan to put everyone in the crypts came from... Tyrion? W T F !!!!!

I have a feeling that in this next episode we will find out that Tyrion is a closet White Walker.

    Here we are.

Substitute Dany for Carrie and and Jamie and Cersie for Jake and Elwood and you have the trailer for Episode 6:

Katyushka or Stalin Organ. I was thinking more of WWI though - Queenie or her dragon had learned the von Richtoffen trick of diving out of the sun, which evidently worked because the flak gunners couldn't see to hit them.

Or they could have illuminated the edges of their wings while diving as was done in one of the earliest forms of active camouflage - also called Yehudi lights, first used in naval aviation during WWII!

It sorta fits and could have been written up more: in old school good GoT writing, they could have spun Tyrion's betrayal of Varys+Dany as:

    1) Tyrion is leery at best at Dany's behaviour, recognizing that even though he is currently loyal to her, proximity to her may be inversely correlated with health and safety as time goes on, especially if she dives off the deep end completely.
    2) Someone in a prominent position (Varys) is a turncoat? Scapegoat time.
    3) A few of Vary's letters to the various other lords of Westeros 'slip out' before Tyrion informs Dany of Vary's traitorous actions. Perhaps doctor a letter or two that he 'caught' that suit his future backside covering needs.
    4) Tyrion's bets are now hedged as follows:
    • If Dany acts reasonably and takes over King's Landing (relatively) peacefully, the other lords will disregard because "Hey a non-crazy ruler, also she has a dragon, we should bend the knee", cue much drinking and jubilation.
    • If Dany acts batshit crazy and does something idiotic like, burn the city to the ground after it has surrendered and basically ousted Cersei, then the letters have reached their intended audience. A resistance can start forming promptly by rallying behind Jon (who now prolly wants Dany dead). He remains on Dany's good(ish) side until convenient.

Instead we got none of the political intrigue and plotting, and were presented with a lulzfest of every character doing their best Missandei portrayal and running around with their heads cut off the entire episode.

Suggest it may have been his last Will & Testament. Probably asking not to be cremated. Pity he didn't realise that Wills are usually executed after one's death. So made the request pretty effing useless ;)

They're going to put all-knowing Bran on the throne while Jon, Dany and the others duke it out :D

In all seriousness I wonder what Sansa/Arya/Yara/Tyrion will be up to next ep. though.

Except they actually showed the words "rightful heir" or some such phrase in his writings. I imagine he had to be writing to the other lords of Westeros. Maybe looking for a new place to whisper.

I blame GRRM. If that fat bastard wasn't going to croke before finishing the last two books, then I wouldn't care how badly they butchered the TV series. This is the only completed "canon" ending we're ever going to get.

I feel Dany is going to order Tyrion's death. And then categorically rally forces to take it to the North and set another example with Sansa. In which case Jon and/or Arya will put an end to Daenerys. It is possible that Sansa will not make it.

The throne then becomes contested again by whoever remains in the kingdoms: They are all headless with the exception of Sansa, which furthers the case for her dismissal, causing Jon to go ape-shit-crazy on Daenerys.

In the end, once Dany crokes, Jon will fly off with Drogon and start a dragon airfare business. Arya will join and take care of customer service.

I know the rumored leaks but this is independent from that.

My guess is this: in the old story about Azor Ahai the husband murdered his wife to save the world, whether it was literal or metaphorical it called for great sacrifice blah blah magic sword. This will be Jon doing basically the same thing to Dany because he thinks he’s saving the world, minus the magic sword though I wouldn’t put it past d&d to do something hokey like have his sword burst into flame. And then what happens in the leak happens.
