I’m listening to a wonderful recording conducted by the remarkable Joel McNeeley of the 1940 soundtrack of “Rebecca” composed by the fantastic Frank Waxman. Highly recommended!

Mitch Murder has a new album. "Anti Gravity Tournament" has a 90-ties feel to it. This is good. One of his best regarding his beats, grooves and compositions. Think elevator music meets rave.

This group and Men I Trust are basically carrying indie music for me these days. Always in rotation on those mellow Sunday nights battening down for another 9-5 cycle. Both groups manage to be really digestible, but never really boring because of how they layer sounds.

I like it, especially that Sprinkler Oasis track. I can always use more headphone IDM stuff to retune my cereberal frequencies with.

Oh, and if this is your first time hearing Men I trust, I can only wish you the best on your trip down the rabbit hole. You are in for such a treat with them. It's an honor to be able to introduce you to them, honestly. I feel like I've got a hidden treasure when I listen to them. Night Tapes is great, and I think they have the stuff to build out a catalog of equal measure to MIT. It's great to me, that there are still people putting their whole hearts into making good music that feels good. Like, you can tell that they have a great time with it and it shows in how enjoyable it all is. They're not putting on airs with anything, just getting better and better at doing what they love.

MIT have become very near and dear to my heart for the quiet sophistication that their music exudes, without an ounce of pretension. It's a sound that quickly becomes this bespokely recognizable thing - it has this underlying heartbeat that for me, makes it pretty special. They're just kind of out there making the smoothest grooves like that shit is just easy to do. They have so many basslines and topline melodies that are burned into my brain. That silky smooth singing just lacing over all of the atmospheric elements and guitar/synth flourishes smacks my tuning fork. There's this essential quality to their music that I can't quite pin down, something that just feels like home to me. If serenity in peaceful solitude could be a sound, it would sound like Men I Trust. Their music is very dearly beloved by me for it's ability to always take me to a place of comfort and centeredness, a presence of being in a moment where everything has always been as it should be.

Tangetially, you might also like Tokyo Tea Room. Kind of cut from the same cloth, only boppier. This is the song that got my attention on them.

It reminded me of a Carly Rae Jepson song that, weirdly enough, is basically everything I want in a pop song. It has this seductive, velvet-deep lushness to it that I can't get enough of. The groove is patient and easy, but also weightful and sincere. It actually took me a while to realize that this was in fact the "Call Me Maybe" girl. Trust, I was flabbergasted when I put that together. This is so far and away from the song that tormented me back when I worked in retail. I had to come to terms with the fact that the same artist I learned to hate back then was now scratching a big itch, that I didn't even know I had. I ALWAYS come back to this song. It's perfect AFAIC. There are friggin mellotrons in there! What is this enchanting vibe music? How did we get here, Carly?

I'm actually going down a different rabbit hole right now. This one is a testament to how far we've come with "vapor" sensibilities IMHO. The genre and general aesthetic being so accommodating of experimentation eventually gets you sprawling esoteric mosaics of arrangement and production like this:
