I will totally be giving Yumi Zouma some more listening time! Appreciate it.

And man, this is so funny. We have so many similar tastes. I'm a huge fan of Flamingosis. Back when I was a manager at a Dollar Tree, I used to play to play Bright Moments over the intercom, even though corporate banned all music. Nobody ever complained.

Also, that's sick that you got to meet Men I Trust, not surprised they're chill people!

That sounds evil. I have never been in one of those stores and now I am glad! Also, you gotta see Flamingosis live. Just absolute fire!

The story with Dollar Tree banning music is that supposedly they got a complaint about vaguely sexual lyrics in a chart-topping pop song they played, and corporate decided to nix music in all locations then and there. It made an already depressing environment unbearably so. Everything about that company exists to squeeze the humanity out of things. I can honestly say that in my time there, I did the best I could to alleviate that for everyone. I saw too many good people go through awful things. The reality of that company and the things they cultivate is unspeakbly dark. I saw someone die there.

We were taking an especially late truck - the driver was placed on 4 stops when they usually only do 3. He started his run at 5am. He was there with us on his last stop at 8pm. He ended up going into rapid dehaydration heat/stroke in the back of his own truck, while loading the conveyor down to us in the back room.

See, he had started to look bad while we were working, bad enough that one of us went up to unload so we could have him cool off in his truck. I'm talking, he went from amicable and energetic to quiet and lumbering in an instant. Once he was up there, I went up front to snag him a cold gatorade. Coming back not even a minute after he went into the cab, I found him unresponsive. One moment, I'm holding him up from flopping out of his truck and trying to buckle him in while he seizes and foams, the next, paramedics are there and he's already gone.

He was new to the whole thing - trying to provide for his new family. They stuck with an unrealistically laborious route and the man gave it his all. I cannot fault him. He died so that people could have more cheap crap a little more cheaply. There's no rational justification for that. He worked probably the hardest day of his life and died for nothing.

Worst retail experience ever, by a lot. I fought tooth and nail for mine and everyone else's humanity in the time I was there, because the things that place does to people should not be. I broke every rule that I could, if it would make even one person's day better. It's a structure that shelters the most sociopathic people with power and treats everyone else like a quantity. Dollar Tree does not care about you, me, or anyone else. Sometimes I don't think Dollar Tree even cares about Dollar Tree. Nothing about those places exude "self-respect."

Takes me right to one of Night Tape's greatest bangers, wish I had this track back then, honestly.

Yeol Eum Son (who placed 2nd in the Tchaikovsky Int'l Piano Competition), with "the Academy*" playing Mozart Piano Concertos on the Onyx label.

An absolutely amazing performance by both Yeol Eum Son and "the Academy". BTW, this was the last-ever recording with Sir Neville Marriner leading The Academy before he passed.

Of particular note is K264, Variations on "Lison Dormait"

    F**king incredible artistry...

Ah, okay, I wasn't aware of the 60 CD set. I first found Yeol Eum Son's album on Qobuz, and then looked up the recording and bought it directly from Onyx. It's really wonderful, as is her playing.
