If you like Maiden and Priest, then Show No Mercy. The 80s CDs are expensive but best. The 90s remaster is cheap and not horrible. Production isn't the best on that one so who really cares? It's about the music
@Boops, in my estimation, the two most essential albums are Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss. Like @Psalmanazar, I like the original issue CDs, and the newer digital remasters are damn good: I believe they were the source of the vinyl reissues in recent years. Sourced from the original tapes if I'm not mistaken.
In my estimation said no Slatanic Wehrmacht member ever. Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits are the essential ones. Reign in Blood and South of Heaven are still good but the start of dumbing everything down for stupid people.
The stuff after Seasons in the Abyss is just taking money from retards as somebody might as well do it. It’s not like the people buying 90s Slayer stuff for a break from Soundgarden were going to buy the first couple of Morbid Angel and Deicide albums....
I dig Hell Awaits, but Show No Mercy sounds like a demo for what slayer would become. Reign in Blood is dope. I liked South of Heaven for a couple listens, but it bores me over time. Seasons is their best balanced album. pretty much every album afterward is small-room sounding garbage (except for divine intervention: decent production, boring music).
@Psalmanazar , I was listening to this shit when you were presumably in diapers. I've listened to it thousands of times over the years. But I don't bow at the alter of Slayer. I still prefer Pantera, Van Halen, Rush, Opeth and a lot of other shit.
Who gives a f**k about the production? “Season is their best balanced album” said no metal head or anyone who’s ever listened to a slayer album all the way through ever. f**k off poser. Go back to watching Beavis and Butthead make fun of Madonna videos
“Opeth and Pantera wow wa weee wa I am true metal head. I prefer wuss rock cuz I am 10 years older than you thus more true.” Opeth sucks turds. Pantera is for ex high school players mad their wives filed divorces citing spousal abuse
Oh please. Production values matter on any album. The mixture of songs like War Ensemble, Dead Skin Mask, Hallowed Point and Skeletons of Society are what makes SITA great. Like the best elements of Reign in Blood and South of Heaven.
Start with early albums. Go for early pressings (CD and vinyl) and use a PortaPro or loud speakers. It is good Metal but not as sharp as Metallica. It is big sounding but not as slick as Iron Maiden. Look for their early live recordings. The 1986 one in Mexico should be good.
The main takeaway here is that you should just listen to Megadeth instead. Killing is my Business, Peace Sells and Rust in Peace being the perfect trifecta
Megadeth is good yet Slayer has that unpolished sound that makes you just want to headbang and jump around. It is a simple pleasure but not one to overlook...
I know allot of dudes like Psalm in the metal scene in Detroit. They refuse to record albums in a proper studio because "it's not metal", and prefer to record on a 4-track in a basement. Fantastic musicians but they are very dogmatic in that way.
Clearly everyone should be listening to Mettalica's genre-defining Death Magnetic via a Woo Fireflies and something Beyerdynamic anyway. Lightweights. That's being properly metal.
