I did. I didn't let on that I knew once I realized the pics were from my old listing. Just gave him an excuse not to go through with the purchase and just reported him (this was on HF). Yeah, I should have pulled a response r/scambait style but I was just a bit in shock and a WTF kind of mind the whole time.
"I'd love to buy your amp. I'm in Nigeria so I'll have to send you the funds directly to your checking account. Please send me the routing and account numbers and I'll send you the funds right away!"
Used to be able to confirm legitimacy by having them include a photo with a piece of paper that has their name written on it next to the item. But I’ve now seen some AI generated examples that mean you can get scammed that way too
I've started taking pictures of serial numbers in the items I sell off-site. But I mostly just avoid off-site sales anymore. It's not worth all the damn headaches.
@Cspirou this is exactly what happened. I ended up asking for a photo w/paper and their name and my name with the item, and he AI generated or quick photoshopped that with the item. So yeah, trust is getting harder these days. for sure.
@Qildail That is why I value and have the utmost respect for the peeps here within the SBAF community. Definitely less headache to deal with people you know or are very reputable.
