Loaner: Bakoon Amp-13R

I noticed that just about just about every review I read for the 13R state

• Gain : 22.5 dB max. (speaker, headphone high) or 7 dB max. (headphone low)

I tried researching about this low/high gain mode.

I can't find a manual online, and I'm not sure if the above quote is talking about the bottom of the amp or the original packaging material.

I found this youtube review that may touch on the gain settings.


Summarizing

• Power the amp off using remote
• Push in Volume knob in for 5 seconds
• Lights will flash either v1 and v2 together, or v2 and SL together
  
• Rotating the knob will change the flashing lights between V1, V2, SL
• Wait for the lights to turn off and you can power on the amp again.

I found the 23R manual on headfi which has the same (speaker, headphone high) (headphone low) language. Saying that V1 is low gain, and V2 is high. I don't know if this setting is remembered, or if there is a way to tell what setting it on unless you go through the above steps.

Does anyone have more insight into this?

 

I have the Enleum AMP-23r but on that the Low vs High gain is only for the headphone output. I only messed with it one time as I primarily use as a speaker amp. My rudimentary understanding is that the high gain mode is basically susvara mode, but I imagine there could be subtle differences for headphone pairings where using one or the other would be beneficial.

Bakoon AMP-R13 arrived.

NOTE: To switch to high gain, power off the unit with the remote. Then push the knob straight in on the amp for 5 seconds until the lights on the left side start blinking. Then turn the knob to the right by one click. Then wait until the lights go off. Then power up the amp as normal.

I post this because it is in the manual, but any amp I have to RTFM to do something as simple as switch gains is already annoying AF. I also wanted to post for others as low gain with using speakers is very weak sauce and don't judge the amp in only low gain. You may or may not need high gain with some headphones, but low gain is very low.

Between fortuitous timing (Friday and Saturday are my only two days to really listen and it came in on Friday afternoon on the dot) and a busy week ahead (I do tax prep work...tomorrow is April 15th...), I did about all the listening I could or cared to already. As they say in government - I yield my time to the floor.

 

I'd like to hear this amp with a bunch of my orthos, but based not the reviews and the cost of buying this amp, it's not worth $100 plus shipping to me at this point in time with my budget for extras. rhythmdevils audio getting up and running takes priority. Is there a place for that on the loaner tour maybe as former gear master? If not, that's fine I understand. Cheers
