Surprised SBAF had a car thread. I noticed Subarus have quite a presence here, so here's my car, from their 90's WRC rival, Mitsubishi. It's a heavily modified Lancer Evolution IV. Back in 2016, I had put audio in the (pun unintended) backseat, to focus on this ride. My dad owned one of these back in the late 90's, and so once I had enough to buy one for myself, I jumped into it, but decided to give it my own twist.

It's currently putting down around 550 wheel horsepower, with a 2.3L stroker 4G63T engine. Engine internals have all been upgraded (bigger injectors, bigger turbo, aftermarket rods, etc). Engine management is done with a MoTeC M800 ECU. Running Ohlins coilovers, and adjustable camber arms. Wheels are Volk Racing CE28SLs in 18x10.5+15 specs, wrapped in Yokohama Advans AD08R (265/35/18). The body kit is from Varis Japan, and was based on their time attack Evo 5 in the early 2000's.

I'm using this as a daily driver. It's not the most practical ride, but my son loves it especially with that rush of boost coming in. We'll be getting another car in the future once we move into a larger house, but this for sure is a keeper.

Never expected to find myself dailying one of these but I picked it up as a fixer-upper in 2016 expecting to just fix and flip it, but gradually bonded with it and eventually decided to keep it!
While I'm not married, no kids etc. it's perfect for ferrying me and various bikes around Europe. Can get a crate of beer in the boot too! WIN :D

The resto project from hell. I've restored a few cars in my time and I should have known better before taking this one on.
I'm 2 years behind schedule, massively overbudget and frustrated to the point where I feel like it's ageing me prematurely. Damn electrics in these things!
Any idea I had of completing and turning a profit left the building a long time ago.
Going to give it another season and if I don't make sufficient progress I'll sell it on as a project to some other shmu.... I mean, Porsche enthusiast.

I've always loved 928s, even though they are far from the traditional P-car. There are a couple of nicely restored/maintained ones around here. Good luck with the project, I hope you get it completed.

I've been busy the last couple weeks on the Polara.

A month ago I dropped off the seats to get reupholstered and I just got them back last week. We tried to keep it close to factory style, but with added lumbar support in the front.

He threw in a new package tray for good measure. I was using a rubber floor mat with speaker holes cut in it and he says that wouldn't fly with the new seats haha
    [IMG]

I also finished retrofitting a modern 4 channel amp with Bluetooth 5.0 and adau1701 DSP into the factory radio chassis.

I designed and had a pulley 3d printed for the factory volume wheel to work with the new pot. They're connected by a small ball-chain. I even mounted push buttons to the back of the factory preset box to mute, switch EQ profiles and pair Bluetooth via the amps GPIO. I used a 12-pin molex connector on the back so it would be detachable like a modern radio.

Also also today I finished up replacing the timing chain with a double roller from Edelbrock. The stock chain was knackered. For reference, it should only move half a millimeter or less:

Edit: I almost forgot, I also repaired the heater controls, which had nylon sliders that completely exploded years ago, so they were stuck. A little fusion 360 and 3D printing later...

The 4 year dream is now a reality [IMG]

Ever since I started this car project, the end of goal of mine was to make an itasha that wouldn’t look out of place in the UDX Akihabara parking lot. More than being a car guy, my first love is anime. Yes, I am a full blown weeb and I wanted to make sure that my car would be representative of my weebness.

We had already met several personal requirements with regards to the Evo, mainly the ff: high performance, a more modern interior, great reliability and lastly getting the time attack aesthetic I was going for. Once we got those right, I knew the time was right for the itasha wrap.

I got a very good graphic designer for this wrap, who was also into the anime hobby, so I was confident we could pull this off. The biggest worry was matching the red with the image color of my chosen character, Hazuki Ren of Love Live! Superstar!!, which was blue. Thankfully my graphic artist came through and it all tied well together. With the addition of blue via the wrap, the blue Endless brake calipers ended up looking more cohesive to the overall look too.

This is my forever project, so we didn’t hold back on the wrap. I also had the car wrapped in paint protection film, which is what most itasha guys in Japan do to their cars. It adds an extra layer of shine and makes the colors pop up more, in addition to the protective benefits.

My goal for the build was to imagine my favorite car representing my favorite anime franchise and my admiration for time attack builds. I think we most definitely did it. This was most certainly a long journey, but seeing the overall package now, makes all the stressful days worth it. [IMG]

Once again, thank you to all the shops, friends, acquaintances and family who supported this build from start to finish. You allowed this weeb to live out a dream.

(My car actually won 2nd place in the themed wrap category at Manila Auto Salon 2023, which is basically the Super Bowl of car shows here)

Photos are by a friend. He takes way better photos than me, and does justice to the car's fine details way better.

Looks good! When I was younger I used to love working on cars (mostly North American V-8s). Doing engine mods and swaps, suspension and brake upgrades, etc.

Now that I am older I appreciate having something fast and reliable that I don't have to work on all the time, but I do still miss wrenching on things sometimes.

That was one of the last of the Golden age chassis of Mercedes, went to disposable crap not long after.

Yeah, sometimes I wish it was just simple and reliable, but it will be worth it when done.
Upgraded suspension, fixed oil leaks, and making it pretty
yeah for sure. Next gen sl has no where near the class

Messing around with one of the last "Golden Age Chassis" Mercedes sounds way, WAY more fun than audio. Holy cow man! Really looking forward to when that project is done; you'll have one of the coolest cars on the road (people who know will know).

The only thing that I've done recently with cars is accidentally go 2 wheels off the track at Streets of Willow. Luckily I have protective film over my entire car so the damage is literally just the film but yeah

damn, very jealous!! I've been hunting W140s for at least a decade or so locally and haven't found "the one" - all of 'em are roached out and trying to do a decent resto is confounded by most parts being OOP, especially interior bits. I wish, wish, wish I could just fire up FCP Euro and get anything for these "last of the breed" but it just ain't so.

Congrats @spwath on keeping that beast alive.

Yeah I got a really good deal on this, $6000 and it worked great, just leaking oil.
    Also biodegradable wiring needed replacement.

fcp euro and Pelican parts have most stuff, but I’m also modifying it and replacing stuff with aftermarket and more standard parts. Replacing all lines with -an lines. There is pretty good support for this engine in the aftermarket world too

We had to replace my wife's car recently as we were rear ended on a trip up to Toronto - not crazy damage but insurance totaled it. Not like we needed a reason to indulge our love for LandRover but we picked it up last weekend :

Beautiful car. I really miss my long-gone 914-6.

2.7 Euro Carrera RS motor, short gears, Quaife, cage, etc. Went with the Chalon bodykit instead of GT fenders -- no excuse except it was the 80s. Can only find this photo, on rolling-around-the-shop wheels:
