Either the writers have long been out of original ideas, or the studios just won't back those as not being a "sure thing" for their ROI.

They just recycle and freshen up the same story lines at worst every generation.

Marketing plus above. People want to know what they're in for, if not the viewers themselves then the studios to predetermine things for the next decade. Indie movies are going strong, but even then subject matter is increasingly converging on "modern", "relevant" themes to the point of boredom.

"Where is todays Casa Blanca, that will stand the test of time?"
Quick answer? Gone With the Wind. Unfortunately I think @insidious meme is right. I sure hope they don't go for a Casablanca remake...I cringe at the thought .

@Jinxy245 I read somewhere a couple years back that they greenlit a Casablanca remake, directed by the guy that recently directed the remake of Ghostbusters, lol. I'll see if I can't find a link.

Hollywood is doomed. Maybe one day they'll make a movie about the fall of Hollywood.

@spwath. Pick an era; any era. For every great film you can name, there are probably a hundred that got deservedly forgotten.

Of course, if you fall in love with the feel and style of a certain era, you're just going to have to stick with that era.

Star Wars (the originals), The Matrix, Bladerunner, Apocalypse Now. All of these films might stand the test of time. I expect the additional splintering of viewship will make it ever harder for movies to rise to the top and make it to the universal canon of fantastic films.

Starwars was ok. I don't understand bladerunner, I was so confused. The matrix, pretty damn good though. Apocalypse now, that was amazing.
