Isn't that common around this time of year wherever people celebrate holidays? Post office here is basically dead so I'm not expecting a parcel that's been en route since late November-ish to arrive until Jan at earliest.
Based on my experience with a few packages, USPS is an absolute disaster right now. If I at all care about something getting somewhere in a safe/timely manner I am going FedEx or UPS at the moment.
Yeah USPS is a mess, FedEx and UPS are working great though. Have been getting packages through those 2 in the same amount of time and no delays. The one package I have coming from USPS hasn't had an update to the tracking in 2 weeks, was supposed to get here 2 weeks ago.
I've delayed making online purchases where the vendor is only offering USPS shipping. I've wondered if it might be a deliberate slowdown but I dont know enough to figure that angle. Official statements are Covid + 'fewer sorting machines'.
I would like to take this opportunity to point out that even more expensive couriers the like of DHL are being quite horrible to deal with. I sympathise because their jobs are far more difficult lately, but I'm still quite livid over some recent, somewhat expensive screw ups.
Actually had a USPS package sneak on me a day earlier than expected a couple of days ago, but yeah, it's not a good time to order something and expect it to come "on time" under normal times.
Had a package shipped to me on Monday from about 30 miles away. It shows ETA today but no tracking updates since Monday. Can't imagine how much worse it is for packages that have to travel much farther than that.
I must be lucky, almost everything I have sent/rec'd via USPS recently has arrived as expected. My only area of hold-up has been packages that have gone thru Indianapolis... those are always late.
I have a package on it's way to Montana, that was supposed be be there by 12/12 and has been sitting in Indy since 12/10. It has arrived and departed Indy 3x in the last week.
I’d like to point out that it’s not the fault of the USPS. The *politicians for the last four years* and beyond have been intentionally defunding and crippling the USPS for years. If the USPS had its way it would not only be a well oiled machine it would be a different, better machine entirely. Wtf is the USPS supposed to do with all limbs tied up?
Been unpredictable for me. Kids got two letters from grandparents yesterday, but they were mailed 7 days apart. Coffee subscription has been arriving like clockwork.
I mailed two packages priority mail on Monday. From Portland OR to Atlanta area. They just got delivered today. Five days instead of three for priority.
They are backlogged. Sorting machines were removed and dismantled, orders from the top to slow down deliveries, etc. before the election. Now the seasonal rush putting even more pressure on a system purposefully degraded. The fallout will last for a long time.
It started before the yellow (now grayish yellow) man. Bush jr passed a law requiring all postal worker’s pensions be prepaid in advance. No other govt agency has this requirement. It’s a sneaky f'ing back alley way of crippling the USPS with something that sounds good and would be hard to repeal politically because if this.
The USPS has also tried relentlessly to expand its services to stay modern and relevant. When Kinkos stores were a big thing the USPS proposed adding similar services to compete including computers with internet for public use but it was stopped by DC.
USPS is the only entity in the world with the prepaid pension provision. And yet they managed. Now certain parties would like to privatize the USPS and raid the pension fund because it is so HUGE.
Jesus these guys have no shame. A private postal service would likely charge 5$ to mail a letter. And would mean no more competition in the mail service. No, ups vs fedex is not competition. Prices would skyrocket for shipping costs of all kinds. How would that affect the economy????
