Zach, Bevin, and their colleagues did a wonderful job with these African Blackwood Vérité. They''re absolutely gorgeous. I love the way the wood can appear, in different light, to be onyx black or with beautiful grain and colors. Impressions to follow soon (only 40 hrs into burn in).

What a beautiful pair. Must be truly one of the strongest performers money can buy.

It's been a while since I listened properly to Out to Lunch! and while I know Goodman and many of the other, old greats like Bechet and Johnny Dodds and Jimmie Noone (I lived in New Orleans for a good few years), I didn't know of Buster Bailey. I have to side with @yotacowboy here and say the worthless ad copy and name doesn’t help. I enjoy the sound of dynamic drivers and the pressure they produce, so we’ll see.

It took next to no time to get used to them. A bit of a treble edge but otherwise I find I'm not listening critically to the tuning of the headphones. It's like they get out of the way for the music. (Didn't have that experience with the HD 650).

Welcome to the club! I had a great time using it yesterday to listen to "Stop Making Sense." (Hadn't heard that disc in over 20 years.) It's all too easy to obsess about mods. Just enjoy it as it is.

I'm sure y'all are right about their policy, how it works, &c. I was asking a different question. Has any of you ever been to one of their stores in order to ship something. When you inform the clerk, "I'll need to have that signed for," has the clerk replied,"No problem. But just so you know, our policy on signatures is ... ?"

Yes, I think the Ebony was said to smooth out the treble somewhat but that spike still does its thing. I always liked the way these headphones pulled off the neat trick of being closed backs, having the hefty bass, and yet still sounding spacious. Do you still have the HP-3?

Yep, they're my mainstays. The Klipsches can be bright at times with shrill recordings but I just happen to really love how they editorialise music— got lucky that apart from a bit too much treble (easily mitigated with upstream) they're just ace for me.

Of course I haven't tried every headphone ever, something may dethrone them yet.

It's good to hear when people find a pair of headphones that are enduringly satisfying to them. There's a danger of such headphones failing to get the recognition they deserve for standing the test of time.

I saw a pair of walnut HP-3s going for 650 USD recently. I don't have the pennies right now but it was tempting!
