Yes but with text you have people being silly on record. Phone calls or VCs are for when you just wanna chill or yell at someone, either excitedly or with vehemence.

You can text me...you may or may not get a timely response. Or you can phone me, I may or may not answer, but you can leave a message. If it is urgent, a phone call will wake me up in the middle of the night. A text message not so much.

Phone calls are more efficient sometimes, but it's more work to ignore people.
