Just going from Youtube, where I read a few comments but did not watch the video (boring! ;) - a reviewer from ASR (an 'Erin') did a measurement/review, made some observations about build /FR, etc., and the Alexander (owner of Tekton) responded in a volatile manner. Thing is its ASR, so the reviewer and ASR probably deserve push back...
@crenca Erin is not ASR, he’s Erin’s Audio Reviews. Erin and Amir both reviewed a Tekton speaker and found problems with its measurements. The guy from Tekton said they were doing the measurements wrong. Erin pulled his video and is communicating with Tekton about the issue. Amir refused. The guy from Tekton then threatened Amir with legal action, which Amir publicized and thus there’s a bit of a brouhaha about it.
I think the Tekton guy is acting foolish and making himself look thin skinned, but Amir always does measurements wrong and is a fool, so it’s all not so surprising. We’ll see what Erin says when he updates things about the speaker.
Erin (Erin’s audio Corner) is awesome. He was a big on ASR for a long time, but he actually doesn’t like Amir - thinks he’s a pompous arrogant ass. Eric from Tekton on the other hand is a f'ing nut and cannot take any criticism whatsoever. NRD reviewed one of his speakers a few years back and it was and absolute dumpster fire of backlash from Eric and the videos were pulled.
I own some Tekton speakers and love them. Eric Alexander sadly doesn't help his brand much in the way that he seems to handle negative publicity. It's important, even if your product has been mis-represented to not come across so 'thin skinned' (as already observed).
@yotacowboy Apparently Eric's Facebook feed under the same name Is public, he's said some, ahem, interesting things. Nothing crazy afaik, but things like pedaling conspiracies about Pluto and doubting scientists. You're probably right, there
I've been following this whole saga...what an absolute shitshow. Eric Alexander must be the dumbest damn businessman out there - he's singlehandedly decimated any positive reputation Tekton may have had in the past. Erin's updated video even showed the emails where Eric claimed he's lost thousands in sales already because of this. And yet tries to pin that on Erin. Wow
It really is remarkable to me how many audio company CEOs are super thin-skinned and can't take criticism at all. I'd name some of them, but I might get sued...
And like the stuff where Eric's like "you cost me speaker sales! People aren't buying my speakers now!" like it's not the reviewer's job to make sure you sell speakers, dude. The reviewer isn't your marketing department, they're not on your payroll. Granted some reviewers behave like they're on companies' payrolls, but that's not how reviewing is supposed to work...
f'ing hell. I was never impressed with Tektons at shows so they weren’t on my radar, but now I’ll actively tell people to avoid them. What heinous behavior. Hope he loses a LOT of business over this.
Well I hate watching youtube so I will have to trust you guys that Eric is a volatile character whose build quality is so-so at best. Still, he is on to something when it comes to Pluto...I mean, it was a planet, is a planet, and always will be a planet, an no damn "scientist" can make it into something it's not LOL :)
@crenca build quality I think is subjective in this case, but what’s not subjective is to threaten litigation in an instant because he didn’t like the tiny little bump in the impedance plot that Erin called a resonance. Turns out after installing the feet as Eric directed, the resonance was still there, until he turned the speaker upside down on its top!
@rlow , maybe because I'm in medicine (business side), but I feel like it is not a conversation worth having if someone has not threatened somone with litigation. Only old women and pussy's don't have a team of lawyers they unleash every few weeks ;)
More news on Eric. In a recent, deleted youtube comment he blamed the whole ordeal on a recently fired employee (and called her out by name using first name, last initial).. 2015 on his business's blog: "Wife kidnapped my kids [custody battle] FBI and police are ignoring me." Recent excuse for late shipment on products: "My wife kidnapped my kids and I'm going through divorce" (years after divorce proceedings)
