The Peak is great, no faults whatsoever but it doesn't have the technicalities of proper SET/OTL amps nor the smoothness so it doesn't belong with the big boys. Massdrop and many <1K are low-fi IMO.

@earnmyturns, I'm saying the peak is mid-fi because I'm currently listening to it with the K1000 and it's a great experience, but earlier in the day I was using the Teton...and the difference between the two is not small to put it lightly. Using ECC32 btw.

I listen to a lot of live modern jazz, and one thing I can't fault the Peak for, relative to the live sound, is smoothness. If anything, live performances, even in the best venues acoustic-wise, sound somewhat rougher. But you are tempting me to find what I'm missing ;)

1984 Frisell with Paul Motian, Kenny Wheeler, Jerome Harris (electric bass) and Bob Stewart (tuba!) is as zany as you could expect from those cats back then ;) Not the mellower, Americana-inflected Frisell of 2000+

wow, thanks for the Aruán Ortiz Trio link on the Lyr 3 page ... loving it. Any similar recommendations / list for a Bay Area brother? I'm too noob to jazz to know what I like, but that was fantastic.

On my way back from 2 1/2 weeks in Europe, only music news was an outstanding live performance in Zurich by the "Blue Maqams" (available from ECM) quartet: Anouar Brahem, Django Bates, Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette. Very different from the Ortiz trio, covering different dimensions of the genre. I'll post soon my 2018 faves so far in the Jazz Nuts thread.
