I'm a failure of a 90s kid who somehow missed the new Paramore album until just now. They're going full retro pop, but in a good way.

I'm about the same age as Gerard Way. I don't know what a scene kid is. I just like MCR. :)

Confession, I had to look up his age just now cuz I was sure my memory was failing me. Jeebus Corpus Christi, you know you're getting on in years when the hot young upstarts you idolised as a kid are pushing 40.

And yeaaaaaaah. Scene kids. Let's just pretend those never happened, lol.

There is so much good music and only so little time. It is easy to miss out on a good album. Paramore sounds a bit like the Talking Heads and that is a good thing. The Talking Heads were unique...

Picked up Philips SHE9850 as a cheapo commute IEM. Pretty okay for $30, but boring sound, just inoffensive. Good makeshift earplugs.

$100 SRP last I checked, but someone here is selling em off at a 70% discount. That helped temper my expectations and avoid being disappointed, haha.

I'm curious: how noisy are all of your listening environments? Still live with my parents and sibs, so 30 or 40dB average ambient.

Ehh, I'll snag some HD650s soon and get to listen to them in my environment, so I'll see how bad the ringing in my ears gets after a standard listening session, haha.

Incidentally, forgot to respond yesterday @zonto, but in my experience babies can be loud. Very. Loud :))

Are those sound levels being reported dBA or dBC? Big difference. My own environment can be as low as 15 ~ 20 dBA. That usually measures 25 ~ 30 dBC.

@atomicbob mine's dBA, though I used an uncalibrated phone since I'm too cheap to splurge on a proper meter :))

The new It movie is more a coming-of-age with horror elements than anything else. Well done though. Nostalgic feel pervades the film.

As one who recently came into a few LPs, question: how good an analogue set do I need to make a decent needledrop? (digital user here)

No worries, I figured the price of entry for a good TT wouldn't be so low. I understand that a great deal more work goes into the production of these things than most people expect (5-digit pricetags for tonearms? Mi madre), so even just getting one to digitise my LPs will likely set me back a lot.

At this rate, might just wait on the new Schiit system and just keep the LPs pristine as I can.

Just saw your reply, @spwath, sorry! And yeah, I've been looking at the used market lately. Planning on working on the analogue rig as soon as I get a better DAC first, haha.

        Thank you!

Deciding on my first ~$1k+ tube amp isn't just a matter of cost and sound, dammit, it's gonna be about how steampunk it looks!

I think any tube amp can be steampunked up by just adding tube dampeners.

@ButtUglyJeff I'm a total newb when it comes to tubes, so I had no idea things like tube dampers even existed!

While I do agree they look cool, it doesn't hurt to have a good base to build upon! Way out of my budget for now, but I think I'll be saving up for a Decware Taboo, which @Melvillian recommended a bit earlier (provided its sound matches the asking price). It looks fucking awesome, is all :))

F+tM's Ceremonials is one of my fave albums, but the mastering is shite. Wonder if this can be salvaged a la Californication?

Oh, thanks! Might be fun to tinker with it myself, just to get a feel for the tool. Sigh, I'm trying not to get my hopes up cuz I've got way too many poorly-mastered albums that I otherwise love. Perhaps I'm not as persnickety about it as many others on here, but I've got standards dammit! :))

Also, as I assume SPL was high enough to cause significant physical damage, the notion that he could have gotten an infection from resultant damage doesn't seem so incredible.

This clip, for me, exemplifies the 9th. In this piece of Nazi propaganda, Furtwangler conducts as if possessed by the freedom this music represents. The Nazis appear cowed, indicted. https://youtu.be/2itdv1aEpG4

@Wilson , first time coming across this particular performance, which perhaps shows how new I am to the classical scene. No time to listen just now, but am certainly looking forward to it— the faces of the crowd speak volumes, nearly as loudly as the music itself.

And I can relate, @Dino . I don't use analogue (space and cost concerns), so my setup lends itself to skipping tracks. It's not so bad, really, getting to sample different music in a single sitting, and it makes those rare moments when I really kick back and go through a full album that much more special. Also, I listen to a lot of modern tracks, not a lot of which were designed for single-run listening, I think :P
