@gurubhai I'm giving myself time to grow properly accustomed to them. Just have them running out of the Piety for now but will give the MCTH a shot sooner or later. With how much fun these are I am beginning to question the value proposition of a lot of modern orthos, haha.

There are some aspects that these modern headphones seem to be better at and I use an umbrella term, modern resolution to refer to aspects such as, bass definition, separation, imaging precision, black-ground etc. Outside those aspects, I do think Yamaha and Sennheiser solved headphones back in the 20th century.

@EagleWings That's why we mod the vintage orthos, to improve tthese aspects you call modern resolution. I won't be satisfied with a headphone if it couldn't do those things.

@Wilewarer the former. With the 3+ I had to flip the switch a bunch, wiggle it laterally to re-center image. Piety and Unity are fine now, I'm just never touching gain settings unless I have to.

@Sqveak ugh, likely. Hate it. No real reason to use lower gain for me unless I try with IEMs. Likely never going to now haha.

@joch I developed a headache as soon as I switched it on bad. I can see this working with REALLY lean headphones maybe, but I feel it makes more sense for iFi to keep their analogue crossfeed implementation than their bass boost.

Understandable. Original XBass on Zen Can I think did it right. XBass+ and Truebass is where they went really south. IIRC, Thorsten developed the original XBass. Subsequent versions after that sucked ballz.

Right, that's what I was thinking. I'm gonna be quadruply sure and email schiit about it though. The specs align and the wallwart is rated for 3x the amperage so it should theoretically be super safe. I know that should work but I'm fully in cover my ass mode haha.

At the moment the only 110V gear I have are the AC-AC Schiit wall warts (unless I'm properly mistaken the Modi MB 2 and Magni don't really have anything to do with voltage conversion themselves?)

Unless your amp runs super toasty, most electrolytics will run more than a decade. Unless they're extra crappy, that is. Most will bulge up and you'll start hearing noise at 2x the AC frequency of your mains. Then it's time to swap the suckers out.

The only capacitors you need to worry about are electrolytics which are generally only in the PSU section. Usually pretty cheap and you will always be able to find an equivalent in the future.

I've been trying to spend a less money lately (just sidegraded to a Zen DAC v2cuz I was honestly getting a bit tired of the Modi 3+ sound after... over two years-- would be fun to hear the Andros out of that actually), I'm mainly going between the Apple dongle and a BTR7, pretty consistent so it's the Andros themselves I'm guessing. Not a bad thing, polarity issues are rare among my usual music listening

Pacing was kinda crap, the middle of the film kinda meanders a bit, but I honestly didn't hate it. Dunno if I'd rewatch it but I don't regret having seen it.

Not only are my neighbours noisy as hell on the regular, but I'm self-conscious about bothering them by playing music at levels I'd consider "immersive".
