Revisiting music I've not really listened to in near a decade and getting shocked at all the "new" details is fun. The Pretty Reckless EP. Oct 5, 2024 at 12:54 PM

Beethoven's 9th never fails to lift my mood. Not quite a classical snob, but I certainly understand the appeal.

This clip, for me, exemplifies the 9th. In this piece of Nazi propaganda, Furtwangler conducts as if possessed by the freedom this music represents. The Nazis appear cowed, indicted. https://youtu.be/2itdv1aEpG4

@Wilson , first time coming across this particular performance, which perhaps shows how new I am to the classical scene. No time to listen just now, but am certainly looking forward to it— the faces of the crowd speak volumes, nearly as loudly as the music itself.

Find that divine spark and listen again. It is one of those Symphonies that keeps getting better when you find a good rendition.

I'll miss you both very much. Sleep well. I never learned what your favourite songs were.

Life may be short, but it's too damn sad to stop a song playing halfway through.

And I can relate, @Dino . I don't use analogue (space and cost concerns), so my setup lends itself to skipping tracks. It's not so bad, really, getting to sample different music in a single sitting, and it makes those rare moments when I really kick back and go through a full album that much more special. Also, I listen to a lot of modern tracks, not a lot of which were designed for single-run listening, I think :P

LOL, I forgot that the Verve weren't American. Hmm, not too familiar with Massive Attack to be honest. Maybe I should rectify that when I'm looking for new music.
