Lyr 3 is the best amp I've heard for small-ensemble jazz.

Totally agreed. But to me it does more magics for big bands and symphonies.

wow, thanks for the Aruán Ortiz Trio link on the Lyr 3 page ... loving it. Any similar recommendations / list for a Bay Area brother? I'm too noob to jazz to know what I like, but that was fantastic.

On my way back from 2 1/2 weeks in Europe, only music news was an outstanding live performance in Zurich by the "Blue Maqams" (available from ECM) quartet: Anouar Brahem, Django Bates, Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette. Very different from the Ortiz trio, covering different dimensions of the genre. I'll post soon my 2018 faves so far in the Jazz Nuts thread.

Started getting 'Dollar Brand' LPs in the cut-out/remaindered bins back in the 70s. My intro to 'Highlife'! Your post reminds me that I should see what Abdullah Ibrahim has been up to lately. (83 years old and still doing concerts - too cool.)

Ah. I do Nordic skiing. I like it better than Alpine. though I like the big hills in Nordic.

With alpine touring I get the big mountain, deep powder thrill of alpine skiing with the intense aerobic exercise of Nordic. My avatar shows the downhill payoff a few years ago :)

"Retired" doesn't mean dead and gone, it just means you don't do shit you don't enjoy to do any more, AKA "work"
