Testing stuff before packing it up to sell. It all sounds good. It all sounds different. But struggling to tell what is actually best... Jun 14, 2025

Cedric Diggory as Batman not too shabby. He is a wooden spoon, but overall I like this version of realism. Tim Burton forever, though.

I mean... a child traumatized and likely suffering from PTSD witnessing the gruesome murder of his parents, then spent the next two decades focusing on revenge... wooden spoon is probably the right way to portray him.

Bruh. Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35. Never get tired of it, especially when Perlman is involved.

The Tchaik was the concerto that pushed me to practice violin as a kid so that I could learn it one day. I grew up loving Heifetz’s interpretation. So unique!

Lord help me, I want the new iPad Air. I have happily been Apple free for decades, but the Samsung S8 doesn't appeal as much without 5G.

I for one love iPad as a product. I use it for browsing, reading, movie, flipboard, watching family albums. Basically for everything except work. Infact I have started using it with MS Teams to share whiteboard and explain things by Visual means using apple pencil.

Have banished Microsoft and was never even tempted by Apple, but also recognise Android is far from perfect.

The only thing I ever do with music, now, is listen to it, and seldom on a portable device. If I was into making, playing, or even fooling around, with music, it seems it would have to be iPad, /not/ Android. It's a pity it doesn't compete on audio function.

I'm still rocking an older iPad Pro 2016 with 4G. I keep kicking the upgrade can down the road until we have better/actual 5G where we live. I imagine it'll go out of support here soon though.

Super niche question: what BT transmitters do you use on a plane to use BT headphones? Looking for sub-$50 solutions.

I ended up with a Taotronics cheapie for $20 due to an Amazon lightning deal. After some fiddling about pairing (make sure all BT devices nearby are off), it works! And it doesn't sound horrible. However, I have to max out volume to get it listenable. Last time I flew, the volume was crazy loud, so maybe it won't be an issue? I fly again early April so will test and report back.

There was something very simple and good enough about plugging in my Shure IEMs to my phone for so many years when on the go. Working from home for the last 5-6 years has kind of killed that use case so I am ok, it is just really weird to have a phone without one.

If you are used to heavier wooded ZMF headphones already, it shouldn't be too bad. Coming from Senn headphones it was an adjustment and they never quite disappear.

That said, I have never really struggled with heavier headphones. I find them comfy enough that I have gone nearly a whole work day with them on. Oh and I love how they sound. I was down to the Auteur and the VC and so happy I went VC.

Check out the Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Dry Sack. There's a new nano version that's even lighter. I've been considering a waterproof hip pack like the HMG Versa or Summit Bum as well to carry my camera, in addition to my backpack.

I'll leave it to others to judge me, but most of the comparisons of these speakers to other moderately expensive speakers had the upgraded crossovers, so I went all in.

Don't many (most?) big name smartwatches (e.g. Fitbit, Applewatch, etc.) do both of these?

Yes. I wasn't looking to go full on smartwatch, as most of the big names are out of the range I wanted to spend ($200 or less). Leaves only a couple options at the moment as most fitness trackers and even some lower end smartwatches don't have onboard storage for offline playback, only pass through controls for a phone (I want to leave it behind for exercise).

I know you mentioned you don't want to lug your phone around, but when I run outside, I just stick it in a SPIbelt ($20) & let my Fitbit Charge do the fitness tracking ($100). I prefer the Fitbit to smartwatches since it weighs so little (and, I don't have a need for the other bells & whistles of a smartwatch).

Very pleased. So nice to see ME1 with a proper lighting engine. The texture mods I had on my original were great, but MEL is definitely better for me so far. Aiming isn't completely broken anymore and the Mako is sooo much better.
