My LG C3 has optical out. So does the C4, not really considering other tv brands so maybe they’re the exception these days?

I needed the solution to be pretty simple-- something my father-in-law could maintain without much explanation-- so I popped over to best buy and bought him a newer Denon AVR w/ hdmi earc. I definitely took a look at the hdmi extractor boxes, but there wasn't one I could get in hand while I was still at my in-laws place.

Some of them are not even including RCA line outs. I had to upgrade my analog only amp with one that has optical. But then it has issues with just a non-surround input (amp can't handle Dolby).

Got the Soundprotex Plus a couple of days ago cos of Amazon UK discount. Soundwise the high attenuation filter on the senns are similar to what I remember of the ER20XS when I first got it 6 years. Maybe a bit of a upper mid peak to my ears (edit: seems to be reduced once I got a better fitting size), with an overall mid emphasis.

Comfort-wise the senns are much better cos they are less stiff, and the different sizes probably help too. But the softness does make it more difficult to get the fit right since it squishes around more. The pull tab is also soft silicone and can be difficult to feel for once the earplugs are properly inserted.

The Etys have the better case though. The senns come in a nice soft zipper pouch which is more fiddly

I feel like this with Led Zeppelin albums. I prefer their albums on something like a two-way speaker with a compression driver horn and big woofer - you’re going to get all that energy, but it’s not the last word in detail.

You see a ton of them on youtube or at shows. At CAF, I think both Audeze & Linear Tube Audio brought Mays-- I'd expect USAudioMart to have at least a couple Springs in circulation all the time.

Anything I'm not using now, but plan to use in the near future, I shove under my bed. It's really a very safe place. A quick check shows 3 amps. Extra cables and chords are in a loose pile on a closet shelf. Anything I don't plan to use—which is a f**k ton of stuff because "ya never know"—goes in boxes in my office closet.

Lost a whole bin full of cables in a flood. Moulded-on connectors are not proof against several days immersion in dirty water. Some of it was obsolete computer stuff anyway. But now if someone gives me a parallel-socket printer, or an external SCSI thingy, I won't be able to use it :(. lol.

Really just the price. Not to say the price isn't right for the features or anything, just that I was expecting something more like a pair of $999 monos. Was ready to talk myself into about 2k for a big upgrade from my single Vidar, but 3k's too much of a stretch for me.

I thought he had a decently designed experiment. Biggest flaw with his results was that he couldn't get a large enough sample to draw too many conclusions.

I like Archimago a lot. He's a real music listener, even vinyl, who busts myths --- or finds out what's true in them.
