The thing I'd watch out for on "vintage" amps/etc is proprietary parts like electronic controls and ICs.

Been working great, love the sound. Ordered a new remote for it from Ayre. I expect (and have heard) that Ayre's support is among the best. You may still be able to upgrade it.

Last thing, all Ayre much prefer balanced input.

I ordered something once and typo’d the apt number. Good thing was that the neighbor refused receipt but the item got shipped back to Europe and I had to pay to have it shipped again.

It’s easy to forget how unusual it actually is to live in a country where shipping (not always, but usually) works overnight. Germany simply is small enough for that. :)

I've had similar experiences. One package was making it's way through the country and went through the same hub 2 or 3 times. Moving closer to my home, then farther away. Mind boggling.

Do you have the HQP volume at -3 dB? That’s the recommendation.

Ok, I just found that I had accidentally left HQPlayer in PCM mode instead of SDM, which means the DAC’s filters aren’t circumvented, and quite some extra sizzle on this particular DAC. I had experimented with that before.
That explains it. And shows once again how much influence the filters have.

Correction: There’s still quite some edge where I first noticed it: Bach’s Matthäus-Passion in the Harmonia Mundi recording with Raphaël Pichon and Pygmalion. I now think it’s simply the recording, and I just didn’t notice with my previous DAC and its mild treble. The edge I found in OTHER recordings, though, was me leaving HQPlayer at PCM.

With the exception of widebander and active speaker (amp directly on driver) headphone is much less complicated load - thus simple amp produces good wholesome sound.

Going deeper - planar driver (or other damped driver) with close to flat imp curve is easier still. Conventional piston transducers with high imp swing demand high requirements from amp. Integrity over large current and voltage range spanning over wide fr range.

Haha true - I have bifrost 2/64, jot2 as preamp (for the genelecs), and mha 200 in the studio rig these days. All good.

Moved MJ3 to the Yggdrasil rig, not bad at all. But I still think MHA200 gets all out of Yggdrasil and everything else leaves a little bit out. Oh well. It’s good to play with toys and enjoy tunes.
