I don’t agree with #8. You can be all about the music. It can be about the music and the sound and not about the gear itself at all. ie. About the sound itself not the gear that makes the sound. I would much prefer listening to an ipod if I could get this same sound, it puts the focus back on the music for me. But I love the sound the gear creates.

Absolutely, Linux for the win. But there is a forum-relevant proviso. When buying ADC/DAC, check Linux compatibility. Still stuff out there that requires manufacturers' own drivers, and they probably won't come in Linux flavour :/

@Thad E Ginathom totally. I put atomic fedora kde on my kid's laptop and it's a breeze. She finds it easy to work with, I find it easy to maintain, and it is a zillion times better than any jerk windows laptop or chromebook install. I run rocky linux on a few machines for production stuff. It's a bit more of a wrestle, but the github copilot or claude ai makes it easy to configure.

There is too much uncertainty for me to consider US products atm, even if all the tariff bs is over in a few months it will take considerably longer for the reputation to get back to where things were.

When I retired from the city we had an email signature generator on the intranet that we entered all our personal and contact info and it created a sig with the logo link to the city website, disclaimer, and whatever else they wanted everyone's sig to look like, in both mobile and desktop versions.
