Please never let me post a review to Drop again. Idiots telling me the HD6XX series are easy to drive. I feel like I'm on head-fi again. Jan 21, 2022 at 3:49 AM

Anyone ever tried these weird skinny pads for the HD650? Seems like they probably need velour but the pads are definitely interesting.

It is a bummer that it costs a quarter of the total headphone price just to replace the pads on a 6XX.

Drop's selling a bunch of replacement pads for the HD6XX and 58X: https://drop.com/buy/drop-earpads-for-hd6xx-and-hd58x

At first I thought they were the Dekoni ones (velour, hybrid velour, sheepskin, defenestrated sheep's skin) but the manufacturer doesn't seem to be identified (I'm not interested enough to trawl through all the reviews or discussion posts for them).

The construction looks like 100% Dekoni to me. Their velour pads have a two-piece stitched construction that is folded over and hand glued onto a plastic frame, which unfortunately is a major design flaw. The velour fabric pulls off the frame exposing the foam. Dekoni has sent me a new pair but the second pair failed the same way.

Are there different versions of the LCD-2 Classic? Or is a used one going to sound the same as a new one? You never know with Audeze

At least 2021 ones come with newer pads (different foam, different surface, different dimension). No idea if they changed internal structures. Maybe not.

Audeze is imo the riskiest choice in buying used. Nobody can confirm with confidence.

I'm looking at this one now that starts off talking about a guy named John who's having a 'Monday' kind of Thursday but actually John is a workaholic, so this is good. Later, I *think* it's trying to teach me how to apologize. Words like "PHRASE" and "INTERJECTION" keep showing up in caps. Gaslighting me like an alcoholic stepmom, tryna make me feel like I need to apologize for something. It's great.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but it more has to do with the personality and personal reactions to music then the actual music sometimes. Eh I mean, as long as people are enjoying themselves.

I love songs with good lyrics. Music and poetry, hand in hand. And good lyrics often stand alone /as/ poetry.

But I spend a lot of time listening to songs in languages I don't understand at all.

After being totally wowed by some old changstar posts related to orthos you've modded, I put in an offer for a YH100 to play with. Is there any reason I shouldn't transplant the drivers into another enclosure? Hoping they'll work in a full size shell with larger pads. Thank you for the inspiration :)

Whoops... I was reading about how the YH100 has a stronger magnet (supposedly) than YH1 so that's what tipped me towards it. I can tolerate some upper mid push if I can also get some good bass out of it. Might try one of those other ones in addition!

HD and SSD often have some magnetic shielding. Large driver orthos probably can’t generate a strong enough field to properly erase a drive. If you really want to wipe a hard drive on the cheap, consider getting a watch demagnetizer.

My wife is meeting a friend, at her work, next week, first time since covid. That friend keeps my off-site backup hdd. I was going to ask her to do a disk swap at the same time. Then I remembered that the friend works in the x-ray department.

C1's color science is a bit better than Adobe's for my taste, Adobe's cross platform sync and convenience for bulk editing is still unmatched. I use both, but I can justify it as a work expense. C1 is also headed to a subscription model. As is everyone. Fuck micro transactions - they really stink. Yay capitalism?

I use Adobe Audition. $264/yr with taxes. For ten year's use that is $2640. I don't need all the updates. So I can commiserate about hating the subscription model. I'm considering cancelling this year and using only Cubase and CEP2, which I already have.
