My first answer is "shit is wired together." Auditory-tactile synesthesia, some sound triggers physical sensation. Some benefit was conveyed, and over many years, neurons that fired together wired together.

One possible benefit is music helped people mate. Historically producing music required dexterity, energy, etc. If women found certain sounds pleasing and gave sex, then men would naturally start to find them pleasing also due to the obvious benefit. The more skilled a musician you were, the more you could outcompete the guy next to you. Music could also help groups become more collaborative and less violent.

Also worth pointing out some animals that can mimic sounds like parrots, cockatoos and elephants also can recognize rhythm and "dance." So, there's a parallel evolutionary aspect there.

Silence, solitude, and sleep

My wife can’t stand silence, I love it. It’s so wonderful being at home when nobody else is there. And sometimes just sitting there and doing nothing at all, so that the silence also enters my thoughts.
Thankfully, my wife nowadays often uses her iPad and AirPods, so the TV isn’t constantly running anymore.

@zottel My wife wants a TV, but I refuse to have one in my house. Not because of the noise, (I hadn't thought of that; so, thank you for giving me another reason,) but because I know she has a tendency to waste her soul on "entertainment." And, also, the activities of daily life are distracting enough, and I don't want another thing distracting us from each other.

What a wonderful way to start my morning. That was a glorious piece.

And I don't know how to recapture enchantment except to see the world a-new through the experiences of another. I have no children, but welcoming a new puppy has opened my eyes to her fascination with things.

To me, as stupid as it may sound, the most important prerequisite for enchantment is that I actually WANT to listen to music. I. e. not only listen because there’s time available to listen.
And then, of course, keeping to the task, i.e. not browsing SBAF while listening, or thinking about other stuff. And the right music for the mood.
But it just can’t be conjured up, it has to happen.

I clean/dry my ears after i shower with a piece of paper towel. Using iems every day and so far no problems.

IEMs make your ears sweat and summer helps dry up the sweat. Winter months don’t and the sweat build up is a breeding place for bacteria, and overtime results in a bacterial infection.

I actually had slight left ear pain after using IEMs recently. They aren't IEMs I share with anyone but I after been consistent cleaning afterwards

Basically it would count as 1 tracks played to completion following random track selection, and count as 0 tracks not played to completion following random. The tracks would be scored by summation over time. (2/n)

This would avoid the ruts you can get into where you choose albums or tracks non randomly based on incomplete memory of preferences that becomes increasingly incomplete as your library expands. (3/3)
