I have analogous experience with Forte I and BH S3X 2w. Let me guess doesn’t sound great? A little more power like 8w makes a big difference IME. PM me, I have some amps you can borrow if you want.

Ive heard LaScalas with 2A3 based monos, 2 or 3 dB more efficient than Forte IVs. Sound was smooth and sexy but still falls apart with a little volume. I'd say 8-10 watts minimum is where you can start to rock it a bit.

I use the Monoprice hospital grade cables and they are super sturdy. I am about to build some entry level audiophile cables to finally hear for myself if anything changes, but if you aren't into building Pangea has been mentioned as a good option for reasonable cables.

Now lift the ground from everything but a dac or pre etc. And wire direct chassis grounds between other devices in star ground manner.

How you parse out nous/adjective/verb from "butt pounding tits" says a lot about who you are.

Post impressions in the correct thread when ready and as others have said, welcome to the team.

Stock tubes are often judged unfairly. It's easy to look down from on high when the desirables are within reach. But how many people judged something good as bad when its only crime was not being perfect? Seriously. Most of my amps run stock tubes and I'm perfectly happy with them. Contentment > nervosa!

Discogs has lots of cheap stuff (less than the cost of even slow shipping). A lot of vendors have a single shipping fee if you buy multiple CDs from them.

Goodwill stores can be hit or miss and usually don't have much but they're cheap. Thrift stores. Local independent record stores usually have a decent cd collection.

Update: I ended up going to Planet Records in Cambridge, MA and they had a great selection and I found some good stuff.

It *might* be. Back in the day, I was coming from a Windows setup which had developed huge latency troubles. I mean the real, unlistenable kind, where the machine stops to do something else.

I still had to work hard to get it working well, especially with JACK/Firewire. I settled on a studio distro with realtime kernel.

Realtime kernels don't seem to be necessary any longer. I still use JACK and the KXStudio apps.

And I still need to reboot before playing music, sometimes.

All of that is better than everyday Windows. I'm just too old for that stuff!

Still, just take the song, make some tweaks, and re-record it. Scary.

The whole thing is pretty good, but the glissando theme in the horns is really cool to me.

That mixture is actually pretty creative. Early 90s boy band pop with its rap influence plus big band sounds (not great, but as purr1n said, just re-record) plus some Latin music elements. And it works.

So it's almost embarrassing how much of a difference this makes for the modest cost. I know all the bits-are-bit folks would be up-in-arms about it but currently, even when I'm not listening to this rig, I'm thinking about listening to this rig.

Even big boy tooby amps can only do so much with Focal stage, though like @ColdsnapBry says Utopia gives something workable. Thing is, it’s not different than hd6xx, but those are cheaper…

While it's a small stage compared to hifi headphones, it got perfect imaging.

It's my longest owned piece of equipment as well, or perhaps just behind the Utopias. I purposely have stayed away from it for the last couple of weeks since I've had the cyan, it's going to be interesting we're going back here in a few days comparing...

My longest owned equipment is most of the gear in my sig: Turntable, tonearm, amp and speakers all date back to OG purchase in 1990. The only “new” gear over that time have been a succession in/out of CD players… last change there 10 years ago now, or.. the recent replacement of my Preamp with a Kara/Skoll…
