yeah, one option is to get the chassis upgrade, let Schiit know of the transformer hum and get the boards at the same time. Exchanging them back to A2 will be easier.

The chassis upgrade should extend your warranty too

I have a new A2 from March, 2024. There is definitely noticeable transformer hum, and this with the Yggdrasil + improvements.

Personally I feel the mk5 is a step backward with the loss of some matrix routing features. I have the mk4 and won't be sidegrading to mk5.

Motu UL mk5 and if you felt the mic preamp wasn't cutting it, add an FMR Audio RNP.

The Steinberg UR-RT4 boasts transformers but they are between the output of the mic preamp and the A/D converter. I'd rather have a real transformer input mic preamp like the Great River MP2 or MP4 (I own one of each.)

I actually did this because I disliked the sound of the plastic knob rubbing against the aluminum. The result was much better than expected.

I've worked for startups twice (employee #18 and #5), and they were both rewarding in different ways. Not really monetarily, but I really liked them.

The click is from the mute relay, which closes upon warm-up. I agree that it's annoyingly loud. I've always done as @dubharmonic suggests and plugged in headphones/iems after the relay has closed. Been doing this for years with no ill-effects.

Thanks for the advice! That's also what I've been doing. I didn't know if that's usual, and the occasional times when I forgot to do this, my ears weren't too happy

@k4rstar you were right. I tried out a few things and Yggdrasil --Balanced--> Transformers --SE--> FreyaS sounds best. I can now alternate between passive for violin/single instruments and Nexus (usually at 1) for most other music. Thanks for the advice!

I don't recall seeing a direct comparison either. I think you will have to triangulate based on your first hand experience with 2 and the impressions of the 3. I sold a BW2 (to fund a Starlett) and the Asgard 3 is serving in its place now

Asgard 3 does a reasonable facsimile of the BW2, just less of everything except extension on both sides where it has more

The 940C are my favorite film caps that are non-audiophile priced. My preferred caps are the solen Teflon tin foil caps but they're pretty expensive.
