What's a good place to buy an hd800s?
TSAV is one of the sponsor here
they are good and reliable and talk with them over the phone for some friendly discount.
Yes, that looks to be the same as headphones.com
Not so psyched about the BBB reviews of headphones.com
Is there a way to stop the Vali2 'click' on warmup? Happy to mod my Vali2 if need be. Does it damage IEMs? It sounds pretty loud to me.
Pretty sure this is also a safety feature
The click is from the mute relay, which closes upon warm-up. I agree that it's annoyingly loud. I've always done as @dubharmonic suggests and plugged in headphones/iems after the relay has closed. Been doing this for years with no ill-effects.
Thanks for the advice! That's also what I've been doing. I didn't know if that's usual, and the occasional times when I forgot to do this, my ears weren't too happy
I changed my Pi2AES to the black case. It sounds so much better now! Thank you @Michael Kelly
Hah! Miss you, buddy! Hope you're well.
The black blocks cosmic rays. Muons or something like that.
@tommytakis's junk prolly sounds bleached out and dry as shit.
What's better: Yggdrasil --Balanced--> FreyaS --SE--> Amp OR Yggdrasil --Balanced--> Transformers --SE--> FreyaS --SE--> Amp ?
WE111C. The ones in the balanced to single ended thread. I'd try them but wondering if it's worth the hassle
my estimation is the sound with the transformers will be slightly but surely preferable
@k4rstar you were right. I tried out a few things and Yggdrasil --Balanced--> Transformers --SE--> FreyaS sounds best. I can now alternate between passive for violin/single instruments and Nexus (usually at 1) for most other music. Thanks for the advice!
45 tubes with 7k primary = plankton. You can hear every breath, every bow movement, bass is well defined, and the background is so black.
I really want to. I have a pair, but I need to get a tube tester first. Looking at the etracer. I'm driving the Tannoys with the 45's. Transformers are Hashimoto
really @k4rstar ? already a tube savant regarding dwarfed 2A3s sound compared to broken 2A3s vs. a broken EC amp?
@jexby lol, I have already owned more tube amps than you will ever hear. there is a lot more out there than EC =)
Did anyone do an Asgard 2 vs 3 comparison? I couldn't find it. I have the 2 and wondering if it's worth going to 3?
I don't recall seeing a direct comparison either. I think you will have to triangulate based on your first hand experience with 2 and the impressions of the 3. I sold a BW2 (to fund a Starlett) and the Asgard 3 is serving in its place now
Asgard 3 does a reasonable facsimile of the BW2, just less of everything except extension on both sides where it has more
Finished refurbishing PAS4 preamp: https://bit.ly/2NPxVLc All electrolytic caps + coupling and output caps + rectifier bridge replaced
The 940C are my favorite film caps that are non-audiophile priced. My preferred caps are the solen Teflon tin foil caps but they're pretty expensive.
The shorturl link does not work
Thanks for the heads-up. Fixed: https://bit.ly/2NPxVLc
JVC HA-FDX1 or JVC HA-FW01 WOOD? Help me decide please. Usually I listen to HD600 with Vali2/ModiMB2 and HD650 with GungnirA2/BH SEX.
HA-FDX1. You get three nozzles, so three different sound flavors. My favorite IEM above the CA/Other IEM stuff that I heard.
Bought them and been listening to them for a few days. Thank you for the recommendation!
Just ordered Freya S. Had my eye on it for a while but this is a good opportunity to support small businesses we love.
Back to basic schiit: Modi MB v2, Vali 2 (high gain, 7308), HD600.
That is a dope setup. Really hard to beat especially for the $$
This should be the highly recommended system for all, newcomers and experienced alike. Inexpensive, available and a common point of reference for all.
Thanks @gixxerwimp for the suggestion on B2 thread. Difference is noticeable with a good transport feeding ModiMB: http://shorturl.at/dqAFK
Then onwards and upwards it is!
Right... I feared this response :)
Or not. Enjoy your new and improved MB v2 (get that if you haven't already)
And don't read my latest profile comment ;)
Probably everyone knows this but I love how the HD650 have braille L (3 vertical dots) on the left side. I use it when listening at night.
I always wondered about those dots, thanks.
Hah! HD800 does too. Too lazy to get the HD600 out of its box to check.
Would never have realised it is braille, rather than a random tactile symbol. Thank you for the enlightenment!
Just realized the HD 6XX has this too
Thanks again for the nice deal on the tube tester, and the listening with your gear. Really nice sounding system. I hope I can get there one day.
Thanks for stopping by :-) It was fun listening. Hope the tube tester serves you well. Cheers!
Just got the new Saga metal remote. Sounds so much better™
metal remote for heavy metal genre, plastic remote for pop music.
I like the avatar!
Thanks! The idea came from some wall art while visiting the company's Tokyo office
Just put together this small system: https://photos.app.goo.gl/NfA5apw48SBSxQx86
I was planning on moving it once we have a real console there intead of a bench, but now I have more reason to move on it.
yes, you want the speakers isolated and on a different structure than the electronics, and TT since tiny vibrations coming up the TT base will compete with the tiny groove vibrations and muck things up.
For fun, I added my 211 amp to the mix: https://photos.app.goo.gl/xSgYuMr98ZE1so9v5
Does anyone know whether the SM5865CM DAC chip is good?
Not that exact model - but if there's a family resemblance to the SM5872 as implemented in my CD player, highs compared to Modi Multibit (maybe inappropriate) are hashy.
Yeah, I have a belt drive CEC CD player. I think it's best to connect it then to Gungnir Multibit.
New Gungnir Multibit + Bottlehead SEX + HD650 = holy shit
I got this working last night :) https://photos.app.goo.gl/CjB2XqNyC8ah20U63 It didn't need much, but so much fun to crank it and listen
And brings back memories of trying to read stuff off the label at 78RPM.
I am clearing out my father in law's space. There are many audio equipment we cannot take. Any *Friends* in Huntsville please PM me.
