I've seen used ones sell as low as $2200 which doesn't seem ridiculous vs used Utopias or new Verite. I still prefer TH900 bass on everything but acoustic bass. LCD-4 bested my 2010 LCD-2s only modestly in resolve and articulation, but I still preferred the tone of my 2's. Still wouldn't want to have any of them as my only headphone.

Yes and no, LCD-4 has a very unique sound where if that's your cup of tea nothing else will do. Utopia sound is more mainstream with many headphones having a similar or better sound signature without the congested soundstage.
Recently LCD4 has had better matching from the very random samples I've heard, still...buyer beware.

Fair enough but it depends on your pov. The analogy in my head is if you pick the right distro and hardware like picking the right amp and dac you can get some truly great results. If you know what you're doing you don't have to spend much but it will scale like mad. Think supercomputers etc.

Nowadays if you install Fedora it will work out of the box on most and even new hardware. Like you can plug 6xx's into a cheap amp and source and still get acceptable results.

I was subtly praising Linux against Windows: Absolutely not Mac.
@Hands, My late-start computer days began with Unix; I loved it at first sight; I hated MS at first site.

My early attempts with Red Hat, however, were a non starter. So, sadly, I left Linux alone for years.

At its most basic, the blue layer is hydrophobic to keep droplets on the surface, the middle layer is the filter, and the white layer is hydrophilic to absorb your droplets. Your stuff kept in, their stuff kept out.

"A Drop In The Ocean" has a version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" that is glorious. Amazing. "Into Unknown Worlds" has a version of "Amazing Grace" that is heavenly. Amazing. But both only available publicly in 16/44.1. I desperately want both of those tracks in high-res.

These are audiophile recordings. One of the tracks I use to demo the difference between CD and high-res is the first track on "The Doors Of Heaven". The bass drum in that track is recorded in a church acoustic. The bass drum sounds more lifelike and real in the high-res version. Transient and room sound more real. Get both the CD and high-res and compare. My gear is Gungnir MB A1, Cavalli LF, LCD-2 Classic.
