I bought a Hagerman Tuba, curious to compare it side by side with a SW51+.
Glad to see Hive still holds its own despite Stax foray.
just bought some Taylor Swift vinyl
Better be 420 gram
I sincerely regret ripping this CD I lost decades ago as a 160 kbps MP3. It does not sound good.
The band isn't obscure, but the album falls into one of those label black holes. This is one of the Yes albums that doesn't appear on most of the streaming services (Talk). Amazon will sell me a used copy for $82 though.
Maybe I can find it on Discogs for a more reasonable price.
I bought a used copy of it years ago for $8 or something. Nice album.
Pixel 6 pro or iphone pro 2021? Which is more "pro"? Lol
Pro means your wallet
It's a Magma kind of afternoon.
The floor is lava.
Attahk! Attahk! Attahk!
A little information on new microdrivers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySHFX4hzgM0&ab_channel=HBK-HOTTINGERBR%C3%9CEL%26KJ%C3%86R
Holy crap that impulse response at 29min is incredible
i wonder if this scales up and you can make a huge panel of them
Ok, now I am joining the team Stax again.. https://imgur.com/a/wU5R3NC
Why did I return? Simple.
1.Lightweight (390g-ish in my scale) for what they can do.
2.By far the most comfortable among I owned or heard for the past three years.
3.Bring something good that other hps can hardly do to my table.
Hard to believe something that presents that large weighs only 390g. (edit: not an argument; just an observation)
Estat is always lighter haha. Magnet is unavoidably heavy (driver sizes and exterior material being equal) I think.
Any suggestions on a nice soldering iron? Mine is bad and my parents want Christmas gift suggestions
I have a t12 clone that I haven't used yet but will post a review. This guy convinced me to buy one.
Go MetCal or go home. I threw my Weller into the trash. It's tool that you will use for a lifetime. PS-900 for a bit under $300. Better than any DAC. I use the MetCal almost every day professionally.
Metcal is definitely premium
So tired of planned obsolescence
The custom Android ROM game is still going somewhat strong but it's not as lively as it used to be about a decade back with the DarkyROM community and others; LineageOS supported the GT-i9000 Galaxy S up until 2017 it seems, but with how many models there are out now development is diffused.
@Merrick Apple do seem to at least give the “appearance” of trying to be somewhat responsible and ethical regarding the environment and privacy (the child porn scanning thing notwithstanding). Privacy and device updatability were 2 of them main reasons I switched from Android to Apple.
I think we audio types are acutely sensitive to this phenomenon. Some of us are still rocking 40-50+ year old gear - planned obsolescence is crux anathema to the hobby.
Weird listening day. Hearing balance is absolutely awful, but somehow music is still completely mesmerizing.
@Thad E Ginathom I think it will still be a couple of years before this is available to the public. That is, if it passes all phases of clinical trials.
@Collusion, thanks. Wonder if I can hold out! Fingers crossed :)
@Collusion that's amazing actually....I will be keeping tabs on this. Too much hanging out in nightclubs in my college years with no hearing protection is something I can take back
DHL often does wonder in oversea shipping. How do they deliver stuffs from JPN to US in 3 days? Prol no premium svc paid by the seller.
DHL may sometimes screw things up but that could just be specific to my neck of the woods where they sometimes forget necessary paperwork. Great for local though, yep/
I happened to ship a 1.8 kg package to S. Korea from Canada last week using DHL express and it only took 3 business days as well.
Shipping was insane at $290usd including the $65 insurance. That was also using the 35% off coupon code.
I like DHL from overseas to US since the shipping rate on average is cheaper than me using DHL to ship something out of the US.
does anyone with a MiniDSP EARS adjust their FR compensation curve for supra-aural headphones?
I believe it would be very challenging. On theory, perfectly neutral on-ear will have a little peak around concha resonance freq if compensated via over-ear curve. But nobody knows exact delta in decibel/Q..
The best way on your end is to find several different "neutrally sounding" on-ear products on lower to mid treble, and take an average for their lower treble peak. Then add this peak to the over-ear compensation curve. Just a thought. (note: what I originally commented was flawed)
From on-ears testing (e.g. Fostex TH-7), I found my custom over-ear comp curve to work just fine. You might need to apply artificial side pressure to overcome the excessively stiff dummy ears though.
So far life after college is... pretty much exactly like college. But I have more money. Having good times...
I have a colleague whose son worked at EPIC. She described it as being in college again, including the part where most people leave after 4 years for something else.
If you really want to make a difference I suggest you arrange to experience the lives of your customers. Go on ride-alongs with paramedics in prehospital situations. Shadow attendings in the ER. Observe OR operations. Spend time in the ICU and NICU. That is what I did to learn how to better serve those working on the front lines of medical performance.
@atomicbob yeah, looks like there is plenty of opportunity to do that, once I finish my training. Would be interesting to see the hospital side, and even better if it was in a cool location
fire up new Big Red Machine. goddamit justin you artsy asshole, quit with the autotune horse shit. #couldabeenepic #butwhelp
edit: Aaron Dressner, thank you for not fucking things up further!
Interesting X9000 impression from an owner: https://youtu.be/6Vf6TdmMtkQ + https://youtu.be/43WR6X_uqjY
Wait, is it cold to you? Did you mean it's on the colder side among entire Stax spectrum? My a couple of meet impressions were rather the opposite (a little soft and warmer than the rest). By "spectrum", I'd like to include at least 009, 007, and legacy lambdas.
Not very familiar with 007 versions tho (kinda unsure between a, mk1, mk2, 2.5, 2.9, etc etc oh well)
No, not cold sounding, it just isn't as involving as vintage Staxen like the SR-5. Its fine as a daily driver, but I will usually switch to something else if I really want to feel the music.
Better (more powerful) amplification did help, but that "boringness" is a part of its nature.
Oh, now I see. I heard that "boring" thing a bit although they did several things well if I recall correctly.
Anandtech's M1 pro/max analysis is up: https://www.anandtech.com/show/17024/apple-m1-max-performance-review
I didn't see any performance/watt charts. Which has got to be mind boggling
You can generate such charts based on numbers Anandtech figured out. haha.
With M1 pro or max's great performance, energy efficiency, and large mini-led display, I'm afraid that my next development machine might be MBP instead of multi-grand AMD/Nvidia PC. Oh well.
If you get one please test the headphone output with high impedance headphones
Bought used Focal Elex. These will be only the 2nd over-ear cans I’ve owned, other than HD650. Hoping for an alternative to the Senn veil.
Will be used with Lyr 3, Modi Multibit and Pi2AES.
Elex are good cans. In the right system though, "Senn veil" doesn't exist.
My dad told me there's a new movie out called "Dunes"
The book dates back to 1965. I'm not an SF freak, but I read it a few years after that. Dads /should/ have heard of it!
I passed the book on to a lecturer at college, pointing out certain passages that accorded with some of his weird theories. As a result, he struck up a correspondence with Frank Herbert!
I heard a guy talk about it on the radio this morning...he read a quick synopsis and was like, "Sounds kind of like Star Wars."
Put down the order for a Steam Deck. Realized I don't have a good closed headphone it can drive. 177X Go?
Beyer just came out with a Pro X line. This includes DT 770 Pro X. No idea how they compare but I feel like they deserve a review
Prelim accounts rate the 700 Pro X as "hotter" and "more aggressive" than the 770 Pro. Sound like Mt. Beyer is still going strong?
Separate names with a comma.
