Didn't want to part from them but.. 8XX packed and now ready to ship out to the next sbaf fellow.
We apparently make imaginary products, based on parts availability these days.
Schiit clock? Emotiva did one. I'm afraid of microprocessor availability though.
However, though, no panic necessary. It just means more stuff to redesign. Or, in Time Bandits parlance: "Dead? No excuse for laying off work!"
Aren't we all missing life BCE (before Covid era)
Got a good deal on a nice used pair of Focal Elex headphones. While not a radical change from the HD600s, they're different.
Yep, crisp, good word. I had good results with a different set of interconnects between dac and amp too (something a bit smoother and less incisive than my usual).
Thanks for this. I'm using vanilla Canare 4E6S between the dac and Jot2 right now. I have a pair of tinned mogami and tinned Deulands around. I'll try those out, too.
I really like Elex, its what I use at my desk all day while working. Its not so good as to be distracting like a Utopia would be, but its still awesome and gets me boppin
Currently testing an Audio Research DAC 8.
This really needs some warming up before any serious listening can be done. Sounds like shit when cold.
Welp, found a use case for a pair of ZMF Classics I bought from here last summer.
With the winter we’re having, riding outside is pretty rare, so it’s usually 3x/week in the basement on the trainer. Most of my headphones are open back, too much trainer & fan noise comes through. Didn’t really like the Classics, too bassy for me. But I tried them this week, and damn if they don’t sound great on the trainer. Not sure why, but I’ll take it. Music is all that gets me through longer sessions.
How do you exercise with full size headphones? Sounds like a sweaty mess and like they'd get annoying as hell.
I don't do much interval work anymore, the basement is just below 60, and I have a beast of a fan.
Gaudio Nair. Satisfying. Thought to myself, "Not sure why I'd ever get rid of these." Mostly classical so far but very promising...
Sony Bluetooth headphones!
I'm not saying it's @Azimuth's fault I have a package of ECC84 tubes on my desk, but if anyone asks, the blame is going that way.
Just post your thoughts. :)
VE EXT has landed and is burning in for a week with its PWA First times cable.
Mini-system synergy: MBP-->RU6 (NOS)-->JARHD650
Loving the RU6. Glad to hear the senns have good synergy as I just bought a 4.4mm cable for them to try out HD650 KISS. Moondrop Kato are also a lovely pairing.
What volume level are you seeing with 650?
@rlow there is no dedicated thread, but lots of discussion here -> https://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/usb-dac-amp-dongles.11001/
high gain, SE out, volume around 88-92 (pretty close to maxed out)
Amazing how many high ohm or power hungry headphones sound very nice out of the RU6. The good synergy goes far beyond what the designers intended.
@ChaChaRealSmooth haha Apple owns your life: https://9to5mac.com/2022/01/27/apple-cha-cha-real-smooth/
Good cause you are cheap @ChaChaRealSmooth
Bruh I ain't putting out for free though wtf
@ChaChaRealSmooth They didn't even send you a free Newton??
Trying my best to rule out 8xx. I don't really need another side-grading hp.. and should save up for sus. Must resist.
BP800. @Bill-P said he'll send one on loaner tour, but I can send you mine if there is much delay. I'm no lvl42 mod wizard so I'd suggest waiting for his.
@E_Schaaf Fair point. And I've never been able to real apple to apple comparison. But a series of bad memories discourage. Maybe I am more skillful now than before, but wasn't happy with anything I eqed. On non-eq front, all the mods I heard or owned could not pass sibilance and shoutiness tests.
@Philimon Tour will be interesting. I'll definitely join. As of now, however, I don't regard its comfort any higher than Eta Genesis. 6x0 headband is what I'd immediately avoid for now (hate pressure points on top). No matter how great they may sound.
I still think 800's ergonomics is way better than 6x0's. The former fairly comfortable while the latter unacceptable. Might be the only guy.
I agree with this to some extend. 6X0 eventually gets to a great comfort level with some stretching of the band. The 800 starts off very comfortable and disappears on your head faster.
6X0 clamp is strong and the pads are pretty stiff as well. So yes, very uncomfortable when new. Needs break-in. Cup articulation is good but maybe you need more?
ETA Mini is live on our site :) https://www.etaheadphones.com
I didn't realize this model was already this far along! Can't wait to check this out.
Hopefully not the wrong place to ask but there's no thread yet so: I'm assuming this is the evolution of the same supra-aural you guys had at socal meet. Are there any plans to make the same sounding headphone in a HD600 series compatible headband + cup?
Apologies in advance if this is addressed elsewhere and I missed it.
@penguins dematted made a thread here: https://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/eta-mini-impressions-and-reviews-thread.11855/
If you need a noiseless pc here is a link to the place I have obtained several fanless computers for audio / music servers:
SilentPC a great option. I built a fanless PC in a regular case using the Nofan CR-80EH with some quiet fans that are basically silent at <400rpm. I'm using the recent Intel temperature throttling to control temps. If there's just music playing I can shut the fans off completely without issue.
RE: Phishing emails about Norton renewal, breaking through gmail spam filters. WTF uses Norton?
Sweet - two loaner pairs of headphones show up at once. I've had worse birthdays! Thanks SBAF.
Anyone know if UAPP can lock the device volume control on Android when the device itself is lockd? (but still allow vol ctrl from BT player)
Just found out my Tavish Adagio will be ready soon! Folks interested in a loaner tour of my Tavish Vintage phono before I offload it?
Yeah, great idea! I’m game!
any paypal alternative for bank-connected transfer between US and Canada, with seller and buyer protection please?
I use Wise (nee Transferwise) to send money from GB to India. They changed their name quite some time back.
Yes, it is a good service. But it is aimed at financial transfer only, and I don't think there are any buyer/seller mechanisms or protections built in.
Wise has worked well for me with international xfers both coming and going; I don't think they offer paypal-style buyer protection.
thank guys. I'm trying to sell something to the US buyer hence that's why i'm looking for mutual protection. I did have good experience with Wise though (unless Paypal who charge me $30 on a $300 transaction lately and is just douchey in general)
Separate names with a comma.
