I’m doing an Overnight Sensation MTM kit from DIY Sound Group. It is a great starter kit. I’m hoping to finish tomorrow or Monday.
I’m putting your old soldering iron to use, thanks again for giving it to me!

Calling present and former T3 owners: is Yggdrasil a good match or stick with Gungnir Multibit? Phones are HD800 and 650 (both modded) also using 2-Ch.

I’ve got the upgrade itch that is the only reason, I could also try Gumbreya but I need guidance, I’m only a Padawan learner

Synergy is great with those two, depending on tubes it's quite the neutral setup. Worked well with 650k for me, hd800sdr needed EQ for my taste.

Have not heard the Yggdrasil, but I have a Gungnir Multibit and I think it’s slightly warm and thick sound would complement the slightly lean sounding T3. Sounds like a good setup

I previously had the speakers sitting on top of a media case. The stands drastically cleaned up the bass and the angling of the tweeter downward brought in much needed air and sparkle.

Haha well other people did that for me so I'm pretty psyched to pay it forward! As for the t3, it's a great amp. I say enjoy it and avoid spinning headphone wheels as long as possible or as long as there vinyl things to do! But if a good zds deal comes along .... ;)

nice man, love that T3 ;) hd800 was a great match for sure, especially with the right tubes. almost electrostatic-like quality to the sound. but i still couldn't shake my deep-seated preference for the hd6x0 and hd580 headphones.

They don’t pair well with Vidar(s) though, which is odd. That is why Neal is selling his.

His Yamaha has a more mid-focused and more intimate presentation which seemed to mesh well with the BMRs. The Vidar(s) ironically were weaker in the bass/slam department on these speakers comparatively. I think the BMRs love class A power.

Is it more desirable to buy an HD800 with later SN? Was there a revision? I’m considering buying a 10 year old pair.

Don't know the answer. But I'd like to say materials do deteriorate over time. And 10 years is a looong time.

Especially if you intend to keep it for another 10.

For HD650/580, is T3 (maxed) an upgrade or more of a sidegrade from Mjo2 (WE396A)?

also Mj2 gives you some versatility. i had a Mj2 when i was almost exclusively using a planar headphone but it sounded totally fine with utopias and sennheisers too. some weird treble fuckery on the Mj, and not quite at the T3 level for dymamic headphones imo.

I’ve only heard one MJ2 and it was at schitr and it didn’t sound very clean. Sounded grainy. Maybe it’s the stock Tubes. The T3 just sounds more refined.

In my humble acquainted-but-ain't-friend opinion, T3 are more of a sidegrade against Mjo2, since you have WE396A tube. As @brencho said, while T3 is more dynamic, the WE396A in Mjo2 gives you much needed soundstage depth
